Transportation

We will depart from Catalina Express in San Pedro on Friday at 7:45 a.mOfficially, you are to arrive at the terminal one hour before departure.  But, unofficially, arriving 20 minutes before departure is o.k.  Tickets will be given to your Chiefs at the terminal that morning.  You should get your ticket from your Chief shortly before departure.

The boat will travel directly to Two Harbors.  Travel time is about 1-1/2 hours.

If you cannot go on Friday morning and want to go on Friday evening (via Avalon) or Saturday morning, please send an e-mail (with your name and phone number) to: CatalinaReservations@rising-son-nation.com

The return boat departs Two Harbors on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Important:  Catalina Express requires everyone to present photo I.D. when boarding the boat.  Please confirm with your Chief in advance that your name is on the Rising Son Nation boat passenger list.

Catalina Express Baggage Policy

IMPORTANT:  Catalina Express is “strictly enforcing” the following baggage policy.

Two bags per person to be stored in the luggage hold. No one piece weighing over 70 lbs. and over 21” x 24” x 36” in size. (Coolers count as a piece of luggage.)  One piece of carry-on luggage (12” x 12” x 24”) must fit beneath the seat.

No flammables, including propane and lighter fluid are allowed on boat.  Two bags per person to be stored in the luggage hold.

If you have questions about the baggage policy, call Catalina Express at (800) 481-3470.

In Two Harbors, luggage will be transported by truck from the end of the boat dock to the campsite.

Directions to Catalina Express Terminal -- Berth 95, San Pedro

Take the 405 Freeway North to the 110 Freeway (Harbor Freeway).  Take the 110 Freeway south to the Harbor Blvd. exit. Go straight through Harbor Blvd. intersection at end of offramp and follow signs to the Catalina Sea and Air Terminal, Berth 95.

Note: Consider carpooling -- Parking is $10 per day.

Activities

Organizing Nation-wide activities for Catalina has always been a bit tricky.  So we leave to individual tribes to plan activities for their members.  Here's some ideas:

Kayaking.  This is a Rising Son Nation favorite.  Kayaks are just the right size for Dad and Son to paddle around the Isthmus.  Rent at the Two Harbors Dive and Recreation center at the foot of the pier.

Hiking.  There are several great hikes around Two Harbors.  Last year the Cheyenne hiked to the top overlooking the Southwest side of the island.

Fishing and snorkeling.  Outboard skiffs are available 2 hours, 1/2 day, or all day.  Fishing gear and snorkeling equipment is available to rent.

Volleyball and Tennis.  Sand volleyball courts and tennis courts are available.

Humvee High Adventure tours.  Ride a modified Humvee into the hills above Two Harbors.  Advance reservations are strongly recommended.

Boat rides.  Take a ride aboard the "Garibaldi" for a scenic view of the Catalina coast.

Relaxing on the beach.  Just hang on the beach, climb among the rocks, or build sandcastles.  When you need a break, grab a Buffalo Milk from the Harbor Reef Restaurant.
